The Nigerian Meteorological Agency, NiMET has warned that dust plume currently observed in Chad and southern Niger Republic is expected to spread into northern parts of Nigeria, raising concerns over reduced visibility and potential health impacts. NiMET in its weather advisory, indicated that northeasterly winds blowing at speeds of 20 to 25 knots are transporting the dust towards Nigeria. NiMet warned that dust particles are already in suspension across the northern region, urging members of the public to take necessary precautions. Also, people with asthmatic conditions and other respiratory health issues have been advised to exercise extra caution due to the prevailing weather conditions. Meanwhile, airline operators were also cautioned to obtain airport-specific weather reports and flight documentation from NiMet to ensure effective operational planning amid the reduced visibility.
