Hunter01/29/26An Iowa House subcommittee advanced a bill Wednesday that would ban county or city-issued ID cards.
CBS 2 reports Iowans packed a subcommittee room Wednesday, with many speakers from Johnson County speaking against the proposal.
The county issues their own IDs as a second form of ID that can be used at banks, schools, local agencies and law enforcement.
Nevertheless, the two Republicans on the committee voted to advance the bill, with the lone Democrat voting against it.
Mike Vondran, representative from Scott County, said the bill warrants more of a conversation.
