New images show the incredible devastation caused after a 2.5-mile landslide hit a town in Sicily, forcing the evacuation of 1,500 people and leaving houses teetering on the edge of a cliff. Photos show homes in Niscemi, a town in the southern part of the island, overhanging a precipice after large sections of the slope gave way on Sunday. A separate picture from the devastation shows a car which was left with its front poking into the chasm. The Sicilian town, which has a population of about 25,000, sits on a plateau that authorities say is gradually collapsing toward the plain below. 'Let's be clear: there are homes on the edge of the landslide that are uninhabitable,' the civil protection head Fabio Ciciliano told reporters.
