SAVES (Somerset Accident Voluntary Emergency Service) does exactly what it says - it is there to help save lives in an emergency.
“It consists of a number of GPs doing out-of-hours work and willing to be called out to assist the ambulance service.
“There is a pool of specifically trained GPs to provide enhanced care beyond what the ambulance service might provide.
“We can provide pain relief and various other services.”As a young doctor, James always enjoyed the challenge of emergency work.
“As a voluntary service, it’s giving something back.”Members of the SAVES team log themselves on so that ambulance crews know they are available.
