The project is part of a wider plan to modernise the Transpennine rail corridor, which connects cities including Manchester, Huddersfield, Leeds, and York. The new viaduct will be linked to the Calder Road bridge via a grade-separated flyover, supported by extensive earthworks including embankments and retaining walls. The Transpennine Route Upgrade is a multi-billion-pound investment aimed at transforming rail travel across the North of England.
