(Morris, IN) – Morris volunteer firefighters successfully rescued a dog that fell through the ice on the Indian Lakes Campground pond this week. Fire chief Randy Merkel says they received the call around 5:19 pm Monday, and responders had to make their way over snow-covered roads to the pond. He says they took their ice water rescue sled to the middle of the pond and plucked the 60-pound male German Shepherd from the ice. Chief Merkel says they then took the dog to a waiting Sunman Rescue 20 ambulance, where the crew dried and warmed him up. Fourteen firefighters reported to the Morris fire station, with eight heading to the scene.
