A group of Buxton farmers say their ability to properly organise as a group has made it possible for them to get government assistance which has resulted in having easy access to their farms and being able to increase production.
According to a Ministry of Agriculture release on Tuesday, members of the Buxton/Friendship Grantees Registered Proprietors Cooperative Society have stated that many farmers in the area have benefited from several government interventions resulting in easier access to farmlands and an increase in production.
Chairman of the society, Leroy Hamer, said that since members of his group approached the government for assistance, a lot has been done to resuscitate and expand agriculture in the area, including the development of farm-to-market roads, which have allowed greater access to cultivation areas.
