-says anti-laundering charges comingThe Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) yesterday said it had terminated six employees, including a manager, and will bring anti-money laundering proceedings against them following an investigation into the transfer of 11 motor vehicles owned by U.S.-sanctioned businessman Azruddin Mohamed. Documentation seen by this newspaper showed that the Licence Revenue Office department failed to follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Para-doxically, the documents note that while the persons involved were aware that Mohamed is a US-sanctioned individual, “the SOPs provided no provisions for such a criteria/ matter”. Despite this lack of a formal framework, staff reportedly failed to seek guidance from superiors and failed to acknowledge that restrictions had been imposed. However, several sources from GRA indicated no such restrictions or SOPs are in place.
