More than 4,000 supporters have already applied for just 1,024 tickets for the Republic of Ireland’s World Cup play-off semi-final away to Czech Republic in March, setting up a major scramble for places among the travelling support. The stadium, home of Slavia Prague, has a capacity of 19,370, meaning Ireland’s allocation represents just over five per cent of the total available seats. FAI Ireland Football Supporter Liaison Officer Gary Spain confirmed the approach on Friday, saying: “This will obviously be heavily oversubscribed. The semi-final in Prague represents Ireland’s biggest competitive away fixture in years, and thousands of fans are expected to travel regardless of whether they secure match tickets. Fans have also been warned not to purchase tickets through unofficial sources, as away sections will be strictly monitored on matchday.
