Shaw, a regular for the Cubs batting .223 with 12 home runs and 42 RBI, was among the crowd. It’s unclear how close Shaw and Kirk were, but Shaw was in an on-field photo with Kirk, a Cubs fan, after a Chicago win in August. Counsell said he expects the 23-year-old to be back on Tuesday as the Cubs begin a three-game series with the New York Mets.
