New Delhi, Jan 28: Jammu and Kashmir secured the second prize in the states and Union Territories tableau category at this year’s Republic Day Parade, while the Indian Navy was adjudged the best marching contingent among the three wings of the armed forces, officials said on Wednesday. Maharashtra won the top honour in the state tableau category for its Ganeshotsav-themed presentation, followed by Jammu and Kashmir and Kerala. Navy officials said the service’s marching contingent comprised 144 young personnel who marched shoulder-to-shoulder on Kartavya Path, reflecting a progressive and strong maritime force. Jammu and Kashmir’s tableau earning the second prize highlighted the Union Territory’s rich cultural heritage and diversity, drawing appreciation from spectators and the jury alike. In the ‘Popular Choice’ category, the Assam Regiment and CRPF were voted the best marching contingents, while Gujarat topped the tableau category.
