Mid Norfolk MP George Freeman (Image: Laurie Noble / UK Parliament)The Conservative MP criticised developers, the Environment Agency and poor maintenance of culverts and ditches for flooding in places such as Attleborough. Their official report found the structure - providing access to the 165-home Gables housing development on the edge of the town - did not have planning permission. He also highlighted a looming risk to homeowners from the expiry of the Flood Reinsurance scheme in 13 years time. Norfolk and Waveney MPs backing the bill include Steffan Aquarone (Liberal Democrat - North Norfolk), Terry Jermy (Labour - South West Norfolk), Jerome Mayhew (Conservative - Broadland and Fakenham), Adrian Ramsay (Green - Waveney Valley) and James Wild (Conservative - North West Norfolk). Mr Freeman's bill will now move to a second reading on Friday, July 10.
