Faster diagnoses as cutting edge technique rolled out at Watford General

Patients across west Hertfordshire will benefit from the advanced Spyglass endoscopy procedure, a cutting-edge technique now offered at the hospital.
Mohamed Shariff, consultant in gastroenterology and hepatology at West Herts Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, said: "This is an exciting development for our patients, allowing them to access cutting-edge care on their doorstep."
The Spyglass endoscopy service began in May 2025, making West Herts one of the few NHS trusts in the country to offer the procedure at a general hospital.
Previously, patients in West Hertfordshire often had to travel into London for this level of specialist care.
The new service is expected to reduce waiting times, and travel demands, and improve early intervention.
