The Ubiquitous Chip in Glasgow’s West End, a fixture of the city’s cultural landscape since 1971, is being considered for Category B listing by Historic Environment Scotland (HES) under a new proposal. "Gray’s murals at the Ubiquitous Chip are rare examples of late 20th century public mural art, as well as important surviving examples of his work. Alasdair, who was born in 1934, was a regular customer at the Ubiquitous Chip and designed the murals specifically for their locations within the restaurant. The Glasgow-born artist’s work spanned a wide range of media, from novels and plays to paintings and public murals. The listing of The Ubiquitous Chip would honour the site’s unique place in Glasgow’s artistic and social history.
