An anonymous post on Facebook voiced concerns for vulnerable and elderly Metrolink passengers after payment stations were removed from the town's tram stop. The change came at the same time as a fault on one of the Prestwich machines, meaning there was no working station on a platform. "Can we campaign to make Metrolink reconsider and reinstate the backup payment stations? In response, TfGM insisted the decision to remove the payment stations was because some machines were "not used at all". It said this was because less than 40 per cent of all passengers use them to access the Metrolink network, which is down from about 90 per cent a decade ago.
