Police have uncovered nearly £2m of stolen construction equipment after they tracked tools stolen from Balfour Beatty subcontractors building access roads to the Lower Thames Crossing. Construction News understands that police were led to the address using tracking technology fitted to tools owned by subcontractors working on Balfour Beatty’s job to build approach roads north of the crossing. A third suspect was detained at a separate address, where further stolen items were recovered. Images released by the Met show pallets of branded power tools, saws, compressors and surveying kits recovered from the east London site, many sealed in bags. Police believe the group had been operating an organised criminal enterprise, reselling the stolen tools online and distributing them across the UK and Europe.
