No decision was made last summer because the application only proposed that 19 per cent of the new homes would be designated ‘affordable’ – a significantly lower portion than the 35 per cent stipulated in policy at the time. The committee expressed its concern at the 35 affordable homes expected to be deliver by the scheme in Merrick Road – amounting to 16 per cent of the 215 flats proposed or 19 per cent of the whole scheme by habitable rooms.
