Amazon has confirmed plans to cut approximately 16,000 roles as part of an ongoing effort to streamline operations and reduce bureaucracy. The announcement was made in an internal email sent on 28 January by Beth Galetti, senior vice president of people experience and technology. “The reductions we are making today will impact approximately 16,000 roles across Amazon, and we’re again working hard to support everyone whose role is impacted,” Galetti wrote. Addressing concerns about further layoffs, Galetti said the company does not plan to announce broad reductions on a regular basis. Last year, a report by The New York Times suggested Amazon was considering deploying up to 600,000 robots across its US operations by 2033.
