Jesmond Park Academy confirmed that it is working with local community groups, Northumbria Police and Newcastle City Council to review road safety on Newton Road after a 16-year-old girl was left with serious injuries when she was hit by a car in November.
Coun Stone told ChronicleLive: "We've felt for some time that there's a surge at the end of the school day.
There are marshals to help people across, but kids being kids will cross further down the road."
There are warning markings outside the school entrance, but it's not enough - there needs to be a joined up approach along the whole Newton Road stretch."
