Franklin County Commissioners plan to vote soon on opting back in to HB581, the Save Our Homes Act passed by the Georgia legislature in 2024. Tuesday night, Commissioners continued their discussion on opting back in after choosing to opt out a year ago. Commissioner Josh Smith asked how the county could determine whether everyone was paying their fair share of property taxes. Commissioner Wanda Thompson said she wants what is fair for the citizens of Franklin County, and since voters had approved opting in in November 2024, she was for it. Long said if everyone agreed, they could vote to opt in at their February meeting on Monday.
