FITCHBURG — Quietly sitting on a corner shelf for decades, more than a century’s worth of Fitchburg Police Department ledgers recently arrived at their new home: the Fitchburg Historical Society.
This “significant and historic gift,” according to Historical Society Director Susan Navarre is a complete collection of invaluable archival materials, including original police reports and records dating back to the late 19th century.
Police Chief Steven Giannini stated, “The Fitchburg Police Department is thrilled to be able to donate these records to the Fitchburg Historical Society, where we know they will be categorized and preserved in the manner that they deserve.
Navarre commented, “We are immensely grateful to the Fitchburg Police Department for this remarkable contribution.
The city encourages the public to follow updates from Fitchburg Historical Society (fitchburghistoricalsociety.com, and on Facebook), regarding the process of cataloging the records and their future availability for viewing.
