The government has confirmed a £20 million grant to safeguard more than 300 jobs at the Vestas wind blade manufacturing factory in Newport, which has been on the Isle of White for more than 20 years.
The Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) conjured an agreement in principle for the factory to switch its operations to become the country’s only onshore wind blade manufacturing site.
The switch could turn the dial on the government’s clean power by 2030 mission, as the UK aims to rebuild domestic manufacturing.
Employees at the Newport plant were told that at least half of its manufacturing operation will be cut amid changing demand for turbine blades.
His specialisms include hydrogen, nuclear, and CCS – all with a close eye on how the UK is navigating the energy transition.
