Earlier this month, the Automobile Association of South Africa (AA) weighed in on the safety rating of the Hyundai Grand i10, giving it a zero-star rating that naturally drew a lot of attention from local motorists. The vehicle is the Toyota Corolla Cross, with the AA raising concerns following the latest Global NCAP campaign crash test results, where it recorded a two-star rating for adult occupant protection, as a result of absent standard side head protection. Highlighting this disparity and democratising vehicle safety in Africa is a Global NCAP priority,” emphasised Global NCAP CEO, Richard Woods. There really is no excuse for the lack of side head protection in the popular Toyota Corolla Cross. At the time of writing, Toyota South Africa has not issued an official statement on the matter, but expect one to be published soon, especially as the Corolla Cross is one of its better selling vehicles locally, along with it being manufactured in SA.
