This time last year, Microsoft South Africa announced an ambitious target to train one million people locally in terms of AI fluency and skills development. In fact, it was able to train over 1.4 million people, 1 418 924 to be precise. “Since inception the AI Skills Initiative, Microsoft has engaged 4 million learners, trained 1.4 million individuals, and credentialed nearly half a million citizens,” it highlighted in a release to Hypertext. One of those initiatives was the AI Skilling Day, which was the inaugural one hosted in SA, and focused on tertiary students and recent graduates in particular. “We have set an ambitious target to deliver future ready skills to four million African youth for digital, cyber and AI technologies.
