The Ashanti South Regional Police Command has arrested a 50-year-old commercial driver after intercepting a large quantity of suspected narcotic substances during a security operation in the region. A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of nine nylon sacks containing 714 slabs of compressed dried leaves believed to be Indian hemp. The driver, identified as Atampugri Akanyani, was taken into custody for further investigations. The suspected narcotic substances have been retained as exhibits to support ongoing investigations, while the vehicle used in transporting the items has been impounded by the police. Speaking to journalists, the Ashanti South Regional Police Commander, DCOP Joseph Hammond Nyaaba, reaffirmed the Police Service’s resolve to intensify the fight against drug trafficking and other criminal activities in the region.
