The Bank of Ghana has cut its benchmark monetary policy rate by 250 basis points to 15.5 per cent, signaling growing confidence in the country’s improving macroeconomic outlook and sustained disinflation trend.
The decision was taken at the conclusion of the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) meeting held between January 26 and January 28, 2026.
He explained that these developments have created room for the central bank to cautiously adjust its policy stance without compromising its core mandate of maintaining price stability.
The policy rate cut is widely expected to ease borrowing costs and improve access to credit for businesses and households, potentially stimulating investment and economic activity.
However, the Governor noted that the central bank remains vigilant and will continue to closely monitor inflationary risks and broader macroeconomic conditions to safeguard recent gains.
