The Alabama Supreme Court heard police officer Mac Bailey Marquette’s plea for immunity in Moody Music Building on Wednesday.
Marquette is accused of murder in the killing of Steve Perkins in Decatur, Alabama, following a botched repossession attempt.
In 2023, the School of Law hosted the Alabama Supreme Court, limiting attendance to law students and faculty.
This time, the hearing was open to all UA students, faculty and staff.
Both a trial court and appellate court had previously ruled Marquette was ineligible for immunity protections under Alabama’s self-defense statutes, so Marquette appealed to the Alabama Supreme Court.
