However, due to the chaos of registration, I ended up registering for Black Austin Matters, a class I did not plan on taking but ended up being exactly what I needed. Originally, I believed that the cultural and social focus of the course would have little relevance to my personal ambitions. What I was surprised to find was that the personal focus of the course would have direct relevance to my college goals. This was not the only time that the exploration of topics in Black Austin Matters happened to resonate with my own goals. Recently, there has been much debate about the utility of humanities and liberal arts classes like Black Austin Matters.
