Hanover County will fight the federal government’s pending purchase of a half-million-square-foot warehouse for a planned immigration detention center.
“Based on what we know today, this property is not the right location for this type of operation.
While federal operations are exempt from local zoning regulations, Hanover County has concerns about whether this location is appropriate,” the statement said.
Days after Hanover received the DHS letter, a second U.S. citizen was killed by federal agents during immigration enforcement activities in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
The full statement from Hanover can be read on the county’s website.
