The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has intensified its efforts against telecom fraud during the ongoing fiscal year 2024–25, blocking 1,875 mobile numbers found to be involved in fraudulent activities, according to official data. In addition to blocking mobile connections, the regulator has disabled 1,604 mobile phone devices using their International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) numbers as part of a broader campaign to curb misuse of telecom services. The enforcement actions were carried out through the Fraud Management Module (FMM), a data-driven system designed to identify and prevent telecom-related fraud. PTA officials said that 69 national identity cards (CNICs) linked to repeat offenders were also blacklisted during the period. The PTA noted that the Fraud Management Module operates under the Telecom Protection from Spam and Fraud Regulations 2020 and was launched in February 2021.
