According to a news release on Wednesday night, former Alabama Republican Party Chairman John Wahl said he raised more than $1 million in contributions for his campaign for lieutenant governor in a single day. While no public filing yet exists of the haul, Wahl’s campaign was formalized with the Alabama Secretary of State’s office yesterday. On Friday, Wahl qualified for the race with the Alabama Republican Party, which he resigned as Chairman of just moments before. “Just one day after officially announcing his candidacy for Lieutenant Governor of Alabama, John Wahl announced a historic, record-breaking campaign launch—raising more than $1 million in the first day of his campaign, the largest day-one fundraising total ever reported in an Alabama Lieutenant Governor race,” his campaign reported Wednesday night. “This isn’t just about a number—it’s about what that number represents,” Wahl said in the Wednesday night news release.
