A magnitude 4.1 earthquake has struck southern Ontario, Canada, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS). Shaking was felt across parts of Ontario and reported as far south as Rochester, New York. The quake struck at 10:59 p.m. local time at a shallow depth of about 11.5 kilometers (7 miles), according to the USGS. People across the region reported feeling the shaking. Earthquakes are relatively uncommon in Ontario, but the region does experience occasional seismic activity, particularly in areas near ancient fault lines in eastern and central Canada.
