The controversy surrounding the tax laws arose after some lawmakers, particularly from the minority caucus, raised concerns about discrepancies between the versions debated and the ones gazetted. Akpabio, however, urged senators to discard any unofficial versions and rely on the certified copies distributed by the Clerk of the Senate. The new tax laws aim to simplify Nigeria’s tax system, reduce bureaucratic hurdles, and increase revenue efficiency. Key highlights include a reduced corporate tax rate, tax incentives for small businesses, and a revised Value Added Tax (VAT) distribution formula.
