Kaiser nurses, pharmacists, anesthetists, therapists and other health-care providers represented by the United Nurses Association of California/Union of Health Care Professionals in Hawaii and California launched an “open-ended” strike Monday, after failing to break a stalemate in staffing and wage negotiations. About 250 Hawaii workers and nearly 31,000 California members are involved. In Hawaii, Kaiser says it will bring in temp workers as needed to remain operating at Kaiser Moanalua and its clinics. Contracts expired Sept. 30.
