Emmanuel Kwesi Bedzrah, Board Chairman of the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) and Member of Parliament for Ho West, says government has committed more than 34 per cent of the national budget to education, the highest allocation to any sector. He said the significant investment, particularly in technical and vocational education, reflected the government’s recognition of education as the foundation of national development and economic transformation. He urged students, especially girls, to take their education seriously, noting that inadequate on-campus accommodation had exposed some students to social risks. He encouraged female students to pursue leadership roles, citing the Vice President as an example of what women could achieve through education. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to the Free Senior High School (Free SHS) policy, explaining that about 45 per cent of GETFund’s budget was spent on sustaining the programme.
