The Honolulu City Council today is set to consider increasing fares for riders of TheBus, TheHandi-Van and Skyline. Reduced monthly pass fares for Hawaii residents only is proposed at $20, while the annual pass for state residents will be $45. But public testifiers at the same meeting largely opposed public transit fare increases. Still, Morton told the budget committee what would happen if the city did not implement new public transit fares at this time and how such a move might affect DTS. Morton also told rate commissioners a proposed fare increase to DTS could generate about $4.4 million in additional revenue for the system.
