Registered nurses from Mission Hospital held a vigil Jan. 28 at Pritchard Park to honor the life of Alex Jeffrey Pretti, the 37-year-old Minneapolis resident who was shot multiple times and killed by federal agents on Jan. 24. Pretti worked as an intensive care nurse at the Minneapolis VA Medical Center. Michael Poulos of First Presbyterian Church of Spruce Pine led a moment of silence followed by a prayer. “We gather as people with grieving hearts, grief over the unspeakable losses many are carrying this day,” Poulos spoke to the crowd. “The death of Alex Pretti has hit me hard,” Dan deBettencourt, a registered nurse, told the crowd.
