A TREND which has seen visitors flock to areas with Highland cattle has sparked a warning over those scouring for the New Forest’s beasts. Although there are more than a dozen breeds of cows regularly turned out onto the New Forest by commoners, Highland cows – with their thick, shaggy coats and huge horns – are among the most photographed. Now, after three people had to be rescued trying to spot the cattle in another part of Hampshire, Commoners Defence Association chair Andrew Parry-Norton said it was important visitors kept their distance. Highland cattle at Brockenhurst, taken by Vicky LingMr Parry-Norton told the A&T: “The message is the same with all New Forest livestock – keep your distance and do not interact with them. Mr Parry-Norton said: “One or two commoners do still keep Highland cows and turn them out, but we certainly do not have the same numbers we once did in the New Forest.
