A Cuban national, identified as José Zamora Escalona, was taken into custody by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) this Wednesday in Clewiston, Florida. According to available information, Zamora Escalona was found guilty of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in Clewiston, Florida. In addition to the Clewiston case, another Cuban national, Evis Peguero-Cotarelo, was recently arrested and included in the official "Worst of the Worst" list. Data from DHS indicates that 70% of arrests carried out by ICE involve illegal immigrants accused or convicted of crimes in the United States. Besides high-profile cases DHS highlights as "the worst of the worst," other arrests of Cubans by ICE in recent immigration operations are not uncommon.
