Who paid for the Target Center ‘ICE Out’ rally?
['Brian Arola']
MinnPost
When marchers rallied inside Target Center last week during a day of solidarity against Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s surge in Minneapolis, it wasn’t the arena’s corporate namesake that paid for the event.
The Minneapolis Regional Labor Federation, AFL-CIO — an umbrella organization with 175 affiliated unions and about 80,000 workers — confirmed to MinnPost that it booked and paid for the Target Center to hold the rally, which was free for attendees.
The City of Minneapolis owns Target Center and the private firm Legends Global manages the arena.
Target Corporation, in fact, has been the target of “ICE Out” protests.
Clergy held a daylong sit-in at the Target headquarters after an ICE agent killed Renee Nicole Good earlier this month.
