The outbreak, centered at a private hospital in Barasat, West Bengal, has prompted officials to quarantine nearly two hundred contacts after several healthcare workers were hospitalized. “Only Two Nipah Virus Disease Cases Reported in West Bengal Since Last December: NCDC 196 Contacts Linked to Nipah Cases Traced and Found Asymptomatic; All Test Negative,” India’s Health Ministry said. According to the World Health Organization, the initial signs of Nipah infection tpically appear within four to fourteen days of exposure. In severe cases, patients can experience disorientation, drowsiness, and mental confusion. In Thailand, temperature checks and health declarations are now mandatory for all passengers arriving from West Bengal at Suvarnabhumi and Phuket airports.
