AACTA reveals nominees for Best Visual Effects or Animation

This year’s field for the AACTA Award for Best Visual Effects or Animation spans Australian independent filmmaking to some of Hollywood’s biggest franchises, with nominated teams contributing to Superman, Tron: Ares, How to Train Your Dragon, Sinners and local feature Together.
Rising Sun Pictures’ (RSP) nomination for Sinners follows on from an Oscar nod for the company’s VFX supervisor Guido Wolter last week.
“We’re seeing human skin, eyes and faces in extreme close up, which always strikes fear into the heart of most VFX artists,” Framestore VFX supervisor Josh Simmonds tells IF.
Framestore is nominated for an AACTA for ‘How to Train Your Dragon’.
The announcement of the VFX nominees coincides with an expanded 2026 AACTA Festival program, featuring new events designed for emerging practitioners and VFX fans.
