City Council progresses the initiative to protect gender identity in Ames

At 6 p.m. Tuesday, the Ames City Council discussed gender identity, the resource and recycling recovery camp and regulations on personal transportation devices.
On a 5-1 vote the City Council proposed alternative one, as directed by city staff, to protect gender identity in Ames.
Alternative one entails city investigations into gender identity discrimination, the highest financial penalty and mediation methods in cases of gender identity discrimination.
“Option one: the city manages local investigations for gender identity while the state continues to handle all other types of discrimination complaints.
