Trying to figure out what happened to my kid's 2002 Grand Cherokee with a 4.0 L6 and an automatic transmission. The engine made a weird noise as it died, kind of like a handful of 3/8" bolts being dropped onto a steel pan. The engine would crank the firs time I tried it, and fired weakly a time or two, and then wouldn't crank any more. My daughter was hauling a fully loaded U-haul across country when it died, she had been pulling the load for 2000+ miles by the time the engine quit. I thought maybe the timing chain had given up the ghost, but it looks fine.
