The reason Prime Minister Mark Carney should be going all out to renew the Canada-U.S.-Mexico Agreement (CUSMA) on trade comes from Carney himself. As the PM has said: “Let’s be clear, Canada currently has the best trade deal with the United States. While it is different from what we had before, it is still better than that of any country. CUSMA a good deal for CanadaWhile that compares to almost no tariffs before Trump launched his global trade war, which disproportionately impacts Canada because of the amount of trade we do with the U.S., CUSMA remains a good deal for Canada. That’s why it’s important that in upcoming negotiations, Carney strives to include as many of our exports as possible under the umbrella of tariff-free CUSMA compliance.
