KUALA LUMPUR : Effective March 1, foreigners will be prohibited from purchasing subsidised cooking oil packets sold at RM2.50 each. “Previously, there were calls to restrict purchases by foreigners, but retailers raised practical concerns regarding implementation, including monitoring and enforcement,” he said. The subsidised cooking oil packets programme provides a monthly quota of 60,000 metric tonnes primarily for Malaysian households, especially B40 groups. Before the ban on foreigners, consumers had scanned QR codes at retailers to verify their eligibility and limit sales to Malaysians.
