Amazon plans to cut 16,000 jobs globally including UK workforceRetail technology giant announces second major round of layoffs in three months with majority of cuts in US but UK roles also affectedView Image Amazon is to cut more jobs (Image: Nick Ansell/PA Wire)Amazon has informed employees that it intends to eliminate approximately 16,000 positions worldwide as part of a strategy to streamline operations.
This marks the latest significant wave of redundancies at the retail and technology giant, coming just three months after it shed around 14,000 roles.
It is understood that whilst the bulk of positions affected will be in the United States, the UK division will also see some job losses.
Earlier this week, Amazon confirmed it would close its remaining Amazon Fresh and Go retail stores across the US, focusing instead on its Whole Foods store business.
Last September, Amazon announced the closure of its 19 Amazon Fresh stores across the UK, impacting around 250 jobs.
