A 74-year-year old woman was found dead inside a snow covered car in a Walmart parking lot in Toms River on Tuesday, officials said. Officers eventually gained access to the car and found the deceased woman in the driver’s seat. Homelessness has been a contentious issue in Toms River. Ocean County lacks an official year-round shelter but operates temporary warming centers during Code Blue alerts, including one that opened last year on Route 9. In a controversial move, the mayor also ordered the removal of homeless populations from a parking garage near the library near the during the summer 2025 heat wave.
