ANN ARBOR, MI – Ann Arbor Public Schools Superintendent Jazz Parks sent a message to local families late Wednesday afternoon addressing the district’s federal immigration response protocols one day after parents were reportedly targeted by authorities in Ypsilanti. Officials have since confirmed ICE agents were not present directly on Ypsilanti Community Schools or other school property. Like YCS, AAPS does not allow ICE agents into schools or on its property without a signed judicial warrant. The Ann Arbor district also regularly cites existing safeguards under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act in protecting student records against law enforcement without parental consent or a judicial order. “We encourage families to review these resources and understand the protections and resources available to them.”
