YPSILANTI, MI - Housing affordability and environmental protections were among the concerns raised by a packed house of Ypsilanti residents Wednesday as they urged local officials to address community needs in the Water Street Redevelopment Area. More than 50 residents filled the meeting room Wednesday, Jan. 28, at Ypsilanti City Hall. “We should focus on building something that will focus on us,” city resident River Santos said. The committee will include three city council members, six to eight appointed community members and up to two non-Ypsilanti residents. Historical contamination led to the 38-acre Water Street area being polluted with lead and PCB.
